Deep tissue massage is a manipulation of the body’s soft tissue at a deeper level than a more traditional Swedish-style massage. To get to these deeper levels, movements are slow to ensure the surface tissues  ‘melt’ and allow access to the deeper layers. It is these deeper layers which often are holding tension from long-term chronic postural and pain condition.  Instead of hands, elbows, fists and forearms are often used by the therapist to work successfully at these levels and bring about a change in the pain or discomfort felt by the client.
